USAID DIALOGUE ON HIV AND TB PROJECT
Qualitative Methods

Framework for Qualitative Research in Social Marketing (FoQus) is a qualitative study method used to provide more in-depth information about project target audiences and product/service providers and to evaluate program impact for project improvement. FoQus studies among migrants in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan will be conducted in 2012 and 2013.

Focus-Group Discussions and In-Depth Interviews (FGD/IDI) are qualitative methods for obtaining information about target populations’ knowledge, attitudes and practices regarding a particular behavior. FGD/IDI studies were conducted among people who inject drugs, sex workers, and people living with HIV in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan in 2010 and in Uzbekistan in 2011. The studies focused on behaviors and determinants of behaviors related to seeking medical attention for TB symptoms and receiving TB treatment (HIV was included in Uzbekistan). Additional FGD/IDI studies are planned to be conducted in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan in 2012 and will include both HIV and TB.
