HIV/AIDS
There is only one reported case of HIV and one death attributed to AIDS in Turkmenistan. But the fact that there are more than 33,000 drug users officially registered by state health services suggests a possibility of a high number of non–reported HIV cases as injecting drug use is the main way of HIV transmission in other countries of Central Asia.

TUBERCULOSIS
The incidence rate of TB is high in Turkmenistan. In 2009, 60.5 new TB cases per 100,000 were reported. The mortality of TB was reported at 6.4 per 100,000 population according to the Ministry of Health.
